FAQs

  • Is there a registration fee?

Yes we have a registration fee - $30 per child or $60 per family. Payments and registration will go through JackRabbit our online swim software. Thus, when registering please add your credit card information. Registration per year is $30 per child or $60 per family. The registration fee is charged when you first enrol in the program and the first participating session of each following calendar year.

  • Do you prorate swim lessons?

You may register by week 3 and the fees will be prorated.

  • Do you offer discounts for multiple children?

Yes, we offer a $50 off your 3rd, 4th, 5th or more children.

  • What should I do when I arrive?
    • Enter the pool deck through the gate on the left of the garage at the top of the driveway.
    • Use the restroom before entering the pool deck. A portable potty is on the right side of the driveway.
  • What should I bring to the lesson?
    • Towel
    • Swimsuit
    • Swim diaper for children who are not potty trained
    • Optional: Goggles with two straps in the back to prevent slipping (We do not encourage the use of goggles until your child can comfortably open their eyes under water. This is an important part of the learning process. If goggles are medically necessary please inform your child’s instructor.)
  • What are the COVID protocols?

More details on our Covid protocols can be found here.

  • If my child tests positive for Covid-19, when can my student return to lessons?

Once your child has completed a 5 day quarantine and is not showing any symptoms. This guideline is based on the CDC guidance

  • Do you use flotation devices?

No.  We provide a learning environment without the use of flotation devices to ensure your child develops mobility and buoyancy independently.

  • Will we have the same swimming instructor every week?

Yes – our philosophy is to have the same instructor each week as this is the best for your child’s learning. Whilst we do endeavour to maintain the same instructor, the reality is that there are also times when instructors do change.  We work hard to ensure that the delivery of our lessons are consistent, so the learning to your child is not compromised in these instances.

  • How old does my child need to be to start swim lessons?

We take children from the age of 9 months. You are more than welcome to put your little one on the waiting list until they reach 9 months. That way you will be more likely to receive your day and time of choice.

  • Are the pools heated?

Yes. The outdoor pool is heated to 90 degrees.

  • Is the pool indoor or outdoor?

We teach lessons at both indoor and outdoor pools. The Columbia pool is an outdoor salt water pool which is heated to 90 degrees. The Rec Centers area all indoors and heated.

  • What is your make up lesson policy?

Make-up lessons are provided when an instructor is unexpectedly unavailable and a substitute cannot be secured, then those lessons are given on an alternative day.

We do not offer make-up lessons for sick days or elective absences. Each class is tailored to the students enrolled and subbing a child into another class may disrupt the flow of the other class.

In the event of inclement weather, the pool will be shut down as it is an outdoor facility. We are unable to provide makeups in this scenario as there is not another facility available.

If your lesson falls on a major holiday, an alternative lesson date will be provided.

  • I have a special needs child. Would you be able to teach my child?

100%! For Katie, special needs kids are her passion and everything we do, we do for them!

  • What is your cancellation policy?

You may cancel up to 14 days prior to the start date of the session without being charged. However, if a cancellation is requested between 13 and 7 days prior to the session start date, a 50% tuition refund will be provided. The registration fee is not refundable. We are unable to provide a refund for any classes after this window.

  • Do you cancel due to poor weather?

All lessons are weather permitting. At Katie's Kickers outdoor/indoor facilities, we do swim in the rain, but not in dangerous conditions. We will only cancel for lightning, thunder (Rec Centers), hard persistent rain and temperatures in the lower than 40 degrees.  In the event of inclement weather, the outdoor pool may be shut down as it is an outdoor facility. We are unable to provide makeups in this scenario as there is not another facility available (similar to if a soccer field is rained out). We will notify you via email and text if a class needs to be cancelled due to weather. We do our best to cancel in 30 minute increments.

  • What is your policy on child vaccinations?

Student(s) must be up to date on current immunization shots as required by VA state schools including but not limited to Diphtheria, Tetanus, & Pertussis (DTaP, DTP, or Tdap), Haemophilus Influenzae Type b (Hib) Vaccine, Hepatitis B Vaccine, Measles, Mumps, & Rubella (MMR) Vaccine, Pneumococcal (PCV) Vaccine, Polio Vaccine, Rotavirus, and Varicella (Chickenpox) Vaccine. While the Influenza vaccination is not required, it would be appreciated.

  • What payment options are there?

Online payments via mastercard or visa can be made using our online registration system called Jackrabbit. Katie's Kickers also accepts cash and check.

  • Do you offer large swim lessons?

Large group lessons are inexpensive, but with lesser opportunities for the child to get individualized instruction, large group lessons are not truly conducive to learning and instruction for young children.

  • Should my child not eat certain foods before swim lessons?

To avoid an upset stomach we recommend that children avoid eating berries, dairy, citrus and tomatoes 30 minutes before their swim lesson.
